Missing Brother Found, Thank You

P119

Hi everyone.
There has been some good news overnight.
I received a call from my parents last night at 7pm WST (1100GST) saying that they had a message left, by Andy, on their answerphone saying
"Mum, I'm in Paris, I'm not well and I'm coming home."
Unfortunately there was no return number to contact him so we had an agonising wait to see if he would turn up or get in contact again.
At 3am this morning (1900gst) my dad called to say, a family friend had spotted him wandering up City Road in Stoke in a distressed state.
He has been taken to hospital. He is physically fine but mentally exhausted.
I'll keep you all informed about his wellbeing as I learn more.
On behalf of my family, friends and of course myself, I would like to say "thank you" to the thousands of people who have spread the message about his disappearance.
I am sure that this effort is what has brought him home to us.
Thank you everyone for your thoughts, prayers and wishes.
Special thanks to Paul Barker at the Stoke, Loud & Proud Facebook group for mobilizing TP's Balmy Army. Thousands of loyal Stokies have made the message heard, as you do every week at the Brit. You have shared, posted facebooked and tweeted Andrew's picture around the world and for that I am eternally grateful. Hopefully I'll get to see some of you when I'm back in Stoke in October. You have all done yourselves proud.
Thank you to everyone at he e-goat forum for taking the time to spread the message around the RAF. Especially the 6 Squadron guys and girls who served with Andy, Thank you for passing the message around your circle of friends.
Many thanks, also, to Madame Putigny at St Hilda's School for her help in translating some information for me.
If the last 36 hours have taught me anything, it's that there are still good people out there. Those of us that use social media daily really are a special bunch when it comes to helping out.

THANK YOU!

We're Living in The Future - LG's Roboking Auto Vac

11104621-roboking

I was a bit skeptical when Mrs SpoonZ started talking about getting a "Robomaid" Vacuum Cleaner! "Who does all the Hoovering in this house anyway" I cried, as I baulked at spending more money on useless junk.

As per usual though I backed down and gave in to Her Majesty's wishes, We popped off to Hardley Normal and handed over a rather large chunk of change (au$600) and left with LG's little red droid!

After rearranging the house a little and setting up it's little docking station, I placed the robot into the cradle and waited for it to charge... and waited, and waited a little more. The old addage "a watched pot never boils" sprung to mind.

Finally the sexy lady robot voice (which is odd as this thing is called the RoboKING) stated that "charging was complete" and with fear and trepidation I punched the Start Button.

"Cleaning Begins, Please empty the dust bin when complete" It said as it left the station and tootled off to map out the house.

"Yeah Right!" I thought to myself "I'll be carrying this hunk of junk back to it's den after it's got itself stuck in a corner or somewhere"

For the next 45 minutes I was transfixed as this little droid navigated it's way deftly around the furniture picking up tufts of cat hair and dead insect parts from our floor. (Our 3 Persian cats have taken to bringing us home gifts of HUGE moths and bugs over the recent weeks)

I mumbled to myself as the robot appeared to miss a spot, only to be amazed as she, yes it's definately a she now, returned back to the part of the room after she'd finished working on another spot.

This little red robot was amazing! Even before her battery was flat, she proudly announced that the "Cleaning Was Complete" and with a whizz she spun round and navigated her way from our back bedroom, straight down the middle of the hallway, around the kitchen counter, past the exercise bike and directly back to her home station where she proudly announced that "Charging Commencing"

"Wow!" I thought "This thing navigates better than most women I know!"

I emptied the waste bin, as instructed and was surprised by the amount of cat hair and bits and bobs from the floor this thing had managed to capture

We've been living with R2, as she's affectionately become know to us, for a few days now. With each clean she seems to be getting smarter, she seems to know where the awkward corners are and is having less and less difficulty traversing from carpet to hardfloors as she is "learning" the layout of the house.

Mark my words - This is the RISE OF THE ROBOTS! - Did we not learn anything from The Terminator films? Judgment day is nigh!

Seriously though, this little gadget is worth it's weight in gold. We've gone from vacuuming the house manually at least once a day to having R2 zip round twice a day. She's so quiet that she can even work while were watching TV. It always makes me smile when she chimes "Cleaning Completed" and returns home without a complaint. There is noticably less cat hair ("Frimmer Fur" as it's commonly refered to as in our house) floating around the floor and being blown around by the aircon and we no longer have to wake up in the morning to an entomologist's wet dream.

Beware Mrs SpoonZ, once LG invent a cooking droid your days could be numbered ;)

Alesis iO Dock - My First Vocal Recording (in anger)

I've been using the Alesis iO Dock for a few months now, and I'm more than impressed with it's capabilities.

Recently I got to use it to record one of our outstanding student vocalists.

This is the first time I've used it in conjuntion with xewton's MUSIC STUDIO 2 app for ios devices to record a vocalist.

The backing track was uploaded to the ipad using the built in wifi server functionality from my desktop DAW in the office and simply placed on track one. A new audio track was created for the vocal and i just hooked up a Behringer B2 Pro condenser mic and, Boom, ready to record.

The Alesis Dock is superb in that it's a perfect portable studio for quick recording. All I needed to find for this recording was a quiet space, away from the humming of computers and airconditioners and the general school hubbub. 30 seconds later you're ready to go.

I exported the audio from MUSIC STUDIO 2 to do some more editing and to sync it to a video track back in the office. Again the wifi sync gave me plenty of options to send the track as a zip containing all the tracks used. Very Handy!

The recording you hear here is directly from the session not the final version. The only processing is from the very capable effects that are found in the MUSIC STUDIO 2 app. A smidgin of reverb and a soupcon of delay.

Overall, I'm really happy with the ease of use and quality of the sound that I've managed to get from this setup. I hope you agree.
